Despite offering just a handful of domestic flights a day from Hiroshima—of which several are outsourced to regional carrier IBEX—ANA operates a dedicated lounge at Hiroshima airport.
Located in the domestic concourse, immediately to the right of the security checkpoint, across gate C, the ANA Lounge welcomes Star Alliance Gold customers, as well as ANA’s premium, Diamond, and Platinum passengers.
ANA Lounge HIJ design
The ANA Lounge at Hiroshima airport boasts ANA’s modern and understated signature design with contrasting black and white tones, clean lines, and elegant glass and wood partitions.
While the lounge lacks windows and thus daylight, the pristine space exudes a sense of serenity. Meticulously designed LED lighting, a modern sculpture, and subtle touches such as ANA’s signature scent and relaxing (but painfully repetitive) light background music create a soothing environment.
A substantial portion of the lounge is equipped as a work space. The layout is ultra-functional more than attractive, with rows of shared desks equipped with power outlets.
The rest of the lounge features traditional seating, with ergonomic chairs separated by wide armrests that serve as cup holders. The layout is compact and offers limited privacy, but the club rarely operates at capacity, and guests are typically exquisitely quiet. All seats come with two built-in power outlets, which can be surprisingly difficult to locate at a first glance: look inside the armrest, typically on the right side.
In the rear of the lounge is a dim and slightly more secluded relaxation area, with a pillow at every seat.
A small but stylish and pristine bathroom to the right of the buffet area features Japanese-style bidet toilets and ANA’s signature scent.
ANA Lounge HIJ amenities
As expected from a Japanese domestic airline club, the ANA Lounge at Hiroshima airport doesn’t offer food, except for small packs of snack mix.
Soft drinks include soda, cold tea, and a selection of fresh fruit juices—which might taste too raw or unsweetened to the western palate. The espresso machine serves a swill concoction, so consider favoring the tea selection instead.
While alcoholic beverages are typically limited to beer—served by a smart automated dispenser which automatically tilts chilled glasses for a perfect pour—ANA occasionally features a bottle of sake or whiskey.
Cell phone signal is weak in the lounge, but there are two open booths next to the bathrooms where patrons are asked to take calls. The rest of the lounge is designated as a quiet zone.
Other amenities include an ANA Club mileage printer, and a selection of newspapers and magazines.
ANA Lounge HIJ bottom line
Elegant and pristine, the ANA Lounge at Hiroshima airport is a quiet oasis a stone’s throw away from the security checkpoint and the departure gates. In terms of amenities, the ANA Lounge is typical of Japanese domestic airline clubs: it is fundamentally a place to catch up on work, with a large work area, plenty of power outlets, and complimentary Wi-Fi. There is no food, but patrons will find the typical assortment of fresh juices, beer, and the occasional bottle of sake or hard liquor.
