The centrally located Delta Sky Club at Los Angeles airport Terminal 5 serves all Delta flights – domestic and international. The lounge was renovated and expanded in 2015 in order to accommodate the airline’s expanding footprint, and features the latest signature Delta design elements and amenities.
Delta Sky Club LAX design
The spacious Delta Sky Club at Los Angeles airport includes a unique mix of elements of Delta’s new design which was premiered at San Francisco airport, along with touches of the airline’s legacy design. Indeed, the club was recently renovated – without ever closing, which is no small feat – and the renovation has turned what was already a quality lounge, into an even more convenient and appealing place.
Delta’s legacy design is bold and modern, with distinct angular shapes, but perhaps a bit sterile. The airline’s new décor fosters a much more homey vibe, with a greater emphasis on privacy, and power outlets at every seat. Elements of both designs coexist happily – the bar retains its electric blue backdrop, and the showers their signature red tile, while most of the seating and dining areas were retrofitted with more comfortable, private seating, and custom lighting.
At the heart of the Sky Club is a rotunda with an intriguing dome illuminated by soothing blue LED lights. The rotunda hosts The Gallery at LAX, an exhibit of art works curated by Delta, which pays homage to Los Angeles. (Check out the flyers for detailed information on the art on display.) The room is sparsely furnished with individual seats and couches, flanked by side tables with individual lamps. The layout is private and the ambiance relaxing, but the room is somewhat too dim to work or socialize. At the periphery of the room are alcoves with additional seating with more adequate lighting.
Beyond the rotunda is a large dining and bar area, split by a long buffet. The freshly renovated space feels pristine and crisp, with fresh flowers on the buffet, ample seating, and small planters on every table. Next to the bar are high cocktail tables in a more informal and dynamic setup.
The dining area opens onto a large room with a long floor to ceiling window, which lets plenty of natural light in and reveals exciting views of the tarmac. Bar-style seating runs along the window for a front row view over the airplanes. The area is typically busy, but the smart layout and variety of seating arrangements prove efficient at preserving a comfortable amount of privacy. Power outlets are available at every seat.
Adjacent to the reception desk are two quieter rooms with additional seating, including cube chairs and lounge chairs with ottomans.
Overall, the Delta Sky Club at Los Angeles airport is a comfortable and well-appointed lounge, with an extremely practical setup which balances space efficiency with privacy, and ensures that every patron is in the immediate vicinity of a power point.
Delta Sky Club LAX amenities
Delta serves a variety of short and long haul destinations from their Los Angeles hub, and the amenities of the Sky Club cater to both domestic and international travelers alike.
The food and beverage selection is strong for a US airline; the recent renovations have expanded the space dedicated to the buffet, which is immaculately refreshed and replenished throughout the day. The (complimentary) food spread includes a substantial continental breakfast, soups, salads, a few hot dishes, as well as varied sweet treats. That’s more than enough for a simple meal on the ground, but the fare is a far cry from what Delta offers at other premium hubs. The hot entrees are decidedly on the heavy side (mac and cheese, soup with an abundance of cream) in contrast to the Delta Sky Club at San Francisco airport, for example, which offers more elaborate and healthier fare with an Asian influence.
A selection of complimentary beers, wines, and alcoholic drinks is available. Cocktails and premium beverages can be purchased from the bar. Coffee drinkers will enjoy the fancy digital Starbucks espresso machine and the selection of assorted syrups. And with a Vitreau water faucet, Delta indulges the most discerning water dispenser connoisseurs.
The elegant, spacious and well-appointed shower suites are a highlight. Light classical music plays in the background, and fluffy Westin towels are provided, along with a selection of complimentary amenities such as toothbrushes, combs and deodorants. Be sure to inquire early as there may be a waitlist. The newly remodeled bathrooms also stand out as a model of design.
Delta Sky Club LAX bottom line
The Delta Sky Club at Los Angeles airport is a well-appointed and enjoyable lounge with a solid range of amenities, as well as friendly and helpful staff. The 2015 refurbishment brought 100 additional seats, new shower suites, an updated dining area with café seating, and power outlets at every seat.
Despite the increase in real estate, the Sky Club remains busy virtually all day, so finding a private and quiet seat might be challenging at peak times, but Delta passengers can rest assured that they benefit from one of the nicer lounges at Los Angeles airport outside the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
