At Abu Dhabi airport, US-bound passengers are required to go through US immigration and customs prior to their flight. This process is called pre-clearance and allows flights departing from Abu Dhabi to be processes as domestic arrivals. Upon landing, passengers can leave the airport or make onwards connections without any further passport or security checks.
Situated after US immigration controls, the Etihad U.S. Preclearance Lounge at Abu Dhabi Airport Terminal A welcomes Etihad First and Business Class customers and Platinum and Emerald Etihad Guest members. (The club also accepts pay-in guests on a limited basis.)
A compact but gorgeous replica of Etihad’s flagship lounges, the U.S. Preclearance Lounge boasts soaring cathedral ceilings, plenty of daylight, and an inspired decor enhanced by dramatic sculptural features. Amenities include a stylish and comfortable seating area, a full bar, and light fare.
Time permitting, US-bound passengers are invited to first visit the Etihad Business Class Lounge or Etihad First Class Lounge and enjoy the many amenities such as shower rooms and full dining, then go through US pre-clearance 90-120 minutes ahead of their departure time. Once in the US departure zone, guests can rest at the U.S. Preclearance Lounge until boarding time. Some flights board directly from the lounge.
