Emirates operates no less than three First Class lounges at their Dubai hub, in Concourses A, B, and C. The centrally-located Terminal 3 Concourse B location is perhaps the flashiest one—with water features, an Arabian theme, and a dozen bistro areas with menu selections inspired by the airline’s global destinations. But it’s neither the newest, nor the largest: that distinction belongs to the First Class Lounge in Concourse A, which was custom-built for A380 service. First Class passengers and Skywards Platinum members are welcome to use any of the three lounges. Skywards members traveling in economy or business class are welcome to purchase access, for a hefty fee.
Emirates First Class Lounge DXB design
The sprawling Emirates First Class Lounge at Dubai International Airport, Terminal 3, Concourse B, used to be the largest First Class Lounge in the world, until it was dethroned by Emirates itself, with the opening of the new Concourse A where an entire floor is dedicated to First Class passengers. Regardless, the dimensions of the Concourse B club are still a sight to behold.
A dramatic lobby adorned with water features leads to an extravaganza that reflects the unique ethos of Emirates’ brand and design. From kitschy Arabian-inspired zone to a serene living room area by the water, there’s something for every mood—and every taste.
Situated on an open mezzanine floor, the lounge is bathed in daylight, and patrons can glimpse at the ballet of departures and arrivals through the terminal’s soaring windows. Unfortunately, noise from the lower concourse bleeds in, and some seats feel oddly exposed.
The lounge was recently lightly renovated and features fresh furniture and a slightly more subdued color palette. Unfortunately, power outlets remain relatively sparse. Then again, there’s hardly anyone in the lounge outside peak times, and there’s no shortage of lamps to unplug in a pinch.
Emirates First Class Lounge DXB amenities
The food and beverage offering alone justifies a visit to Emirates First Class lounges. The airline offers an extensive selection of snacks, appetizers, small plates, cold and hot entrees, and desserts, with a range of local and international specialties. Themed self-service buffets are located throughout the lounge, with options ranging from Japanese to Mediterranean. Patrons are also welcome to order from a server wherever they are seated.
For a more formal dining experience, head over to the central restaurant area, near the open kitchen. Choose a table or a booth, and order from an expansive a-la-carte menu which includes wine pairings. Fresh flowers at every table, VOSS water, French butter, and a generous bread basket underscore the attention to detail.
Should you wish to expand your horizons and taste additional wines, you might appreciate the on-site wine shop, Le Clos. The store offers complimentary tastings as well as a vast array of wines for purchase..
Weary travelers will find a dark slumber room with recliners, VOSS water, eye masks, and pillows. The lounge is open 24 hours a day, so it is possible to stay overnight on a long layover—or even to skip a traditional hotel prior to an early flight. Note however that privacy is limited as there are no individual rooms; but then again there are few patrons at all.
The Timeless Spa situated within the lounge offers a variety of 15 minute treatments, as well as a vast array of additional services for purchase. Be sure to sign up early as spots may fill up fast. For more details on spa treatments, read our review of the Timeless Spa at Concourse A (the Concourse B spa is smaller but is located within the lounge, making it more convenient overall.)
Shower rooms are available, though they look like an after-thought. The design—individual cramped shower cubicles with shared sinks—is reminiscent of a health club and doesn’t belong in a First Class lounge. To make matters worse, there are no toilets nearby. The Timeless Spa bath products are the only redeeming factor. Consider heading over to the newer Concourse A lounge for a proper shower experience and additional privacy.
Other amenities include prayer rooms, colorful family rooms with toys and video games, as well as a smoking area. (For a complete cigar lounge experience, again we recommend visiting the First Class Lounge in Concourse A.
Emirates First Class Lounge DXB bottom line
Overall, the Emirates First Class Lounge at Dubai International Airport, Terminal 3, Concourse B is a remarkable lounge with a unique design, a profusion of elaborate food and drinks, and friendly service around the clock. It’s unfortunate however that recent renovations did not address the lack of power outlets and poorly designed showers.
Whether to visit the Concourse B lounge or the new flagship Concourse A club (time permitting) is a personal choice. The First Class Lounge in Concourse A—the largest First Class lounge in the world—sports a more subdued design and is generally quieter. It also features an incredible Cigar bar and true shower suites. The Concourse B lounge has more humane dimensions, the convenience of an on-site spa, and a variety of seating areas for every mood.
Just be sure to monitor your flight. Emirates does not escort First Class passengers to their gate, which might be located as far as 15 minutes away.
