The opening of the new Terminal 2 Satellite building at Munich airport in 2016 gave birth to five new Lufthansa lounges.
The Senator Lounge in the Schengen area serves Lufthansa’s Miles and More Senator customers, as well as Star Alliance Gold members traveling within Europe’s Schengen zone. The club shares an entrance with the adjacent—and slightly lower key—Business Lounge for Business Class passengers.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge MUC design
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Munich airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite in the Schengen zone reflects years of advances in lounge design by the German carrier. The décor is largely inspired by Lufthansa’s latest flagship lounges worldwide—at Frankfurt and London Heathrow airports, for example—but benefits from a number of new enhancements, with an emphasis on privacy.
The L shaped lounge features a somewhat unconventional floor plan: beyond the reception area, patrons pass through the business center and then the TV room, prior to entering the main dining and seating areas, so as to maximize daylight in the living area. Elegant shades along the large window mask the—unremarkable—views while fostering a warm and cozy ambiance.
The modern and somewhat minimalist décor features elegant hardwood floors, LED lighting, and a palette of Earth and natural colors. The ensemble is functional to a fault, with a few visual highlights such as the droplet shaped hanging light fixtures above the buffet to break the monotony.
The comfortable seats in shades of beige come with side tables and built-in USB plugs and Western European power outlets. Non-Schengen lounges offer universal power outlets, so it’s unfortunate that Lufthansa did not expand the concept to the Schengen area. Equally unfortunate is the lack of power points in the central dining area.
The design of the Senator Lounge at Munich airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite places a significant emphasis on privacy. Along the windows are recliners, casually separated by tall lamps which double as privacy dividers. To the right of the buffet is a smaller isolated seating area with booths and a relaxing backdrop of forest scenery. Across the TV room are two intimate private nooks for two embedded in the wall.
The spacious layout of the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Munich airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite in the Schengen zone offers passengers a comfortable amount of individual space, and the variety of seating spaces and semi-private areas should meet the most discerning passengers’ needs.
The best feature of the new Senator Lounge in the satellite building, however, is perhaps that it is significantly less busy than its counterparts in the main terminal, which are constantly over crowded. Enjoy while you can, while Lufthansa is still ramping up its flight schedule at the new satellite.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge MUC amenities
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Munich airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite in the Schengen zone offers an outstanding set of amenities for relatively short-distance travel.
One of Lufthansa’s innovations at the new satellite building is the TV room, which features welcoming seats around a central column supporting four flat screens. The TVs are all muted, and patrons use their own headset, with individual channel and volume controls at their seat.
The food and beverage selection at Lufthansa Senator Lounges never disappoints. Passengers will find a selection of snacks, appetizers, salads, cold and hot entrees with an emphasis on German specialties, as well as desserts. The spread strikes a good balance between healthy and heartier fare. Lufthansa fans, fear not—the staples are all there: pretzels and candy.
The beverage selection includes a range of wines including sparkling wine, an espresso machine, a Vivreau water tap, and a large selection of soft drinks and juices in glass bottles. Just like at the Senator Café and Senator Lounges by gates G28 and G24, Lufthansa offers a full bar with barista service—a real luxury for intra-Schengen travel.
The business center features tabletop seating and work desks with privacy dividers and power outlets. A shared copier/printer is available, along with complimentary Wi-Fi.
Two splendid individual sleeping rooms are available. Both rooms are equipped with a large day bed, coat hooks, storage areas for bags and personal items, personal light controls, and a conveniently located power outlet. Blankets and pillows are provided. The only missing feature? A door. Lufthansa had to balance their desire to provide high-end amenities with the need to ensure customer turnover. Door or not, the private sleeping rooms are a huge improvement over the much more basic slumber quarters in the main terminal building lounges.
A large bathroom area with elegant shower suites is available. The pristine rooms come with a sink, toilet, plenty of space to change, a full length mirror, and a Hans Grove massaging shower head. Amenities such as a toothbrush, a comb, and a razor are provided.
Other amenities include secure baggage lockers in the reception area, and a selection of newspapers and magazines.
A few traditional Lufthansa Senator Lounge features didn’t make the cut at the new satellite building. Gone are the recliners facing tranquil forest scenery, phone booths, and smoking rooms which are staples of Lufthansa’s Senator Lounges in Frankfurt.
Lufthansa Senator Lounge MUC bottom line
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Munich airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite in the Schengen zone is a high-end and stylish haven for Star Alliance Gold passengers. Much quieter than its counterparts in the main terminal building, the club boasts a pristine space with daylight, private work and relaxation areas, and an excellent range of amenities including shower suites, day beds, and barista service.
The new Lufthansa lounges at Munich airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite epitomize the best of what Lufthansa has to offer. Time permitting, passengers departing from the main terminal may find it worthwhile to take the the brief train ride to the satellite building in order to get away from the crowds.

Overall ratings
Nice interior and plenty of seating available this time.
Choice of food and beverages was good.
Nice restrooms and showers, business centre, Tv-area, free wifi.
New lounge with nice interior and great apron view. Pretty busy this morning but we were able to secure seats for the whole family in the restaurant area. The tables here are for 2 persons only and they are very close to each other, so there is no privacy and it is quite hard to move between them – people were bumping into each other all the time. Apart from this no complaints.
Nice choice of breakfast items and very good selection of beverages. There also is a bar where you can get a glass of champagne on request.
Free WIFI, newspapers. Magazines on request at the front desk. There also is a business center as well as restrooms and showers and a TV area. Some relax chairs are also available.
This lounge has just recently opened and is very, very nice. Modern interior, plenty of seating in different areas like restaurant area and relax area. Apron view. Quite empty when I was there.

Free WIFI, selection of newspapers and magazines. More magazines on request at the front-desk. Large business centre, TV-area, flight-information display, luggage storage and relax area.
