Lounge options don’t abound at Amman’s Queen Alia Airport: most travelers will settle for Royal Jordanian’s centrally-located Crown Lounge. Hidden away near gate 208, on the lower floor of the in-terminal Transit Hotel, is an elegant and quieter alternative: the Petra Lounge. Signage is scarce; look for WHSmith Bookshop and Pharmacy 1, enter through the hotel lobby, then take the elevator to the 2nd floor.
The Petra Lounge serves as the executive club of the Transit Hotel, and doubles as a pay-in retreat for airline passengers. The Petra Lounge is also the designated lounge for Emirates First Class passengers and Etihad’s premium customers, as well as a member of popular airport lounge networks including Priority Pass and LoungeKey.

The elevator to the Petra Lounge is a gateway to another world. From the utilitarian concourse and a narrow hallway, visitors emerge into a luminous airy and space with a residential feel. The club occupies prime real estate with tall ceilings, floor-to-ceiling picture windows, and expansive views over the airport’s manicured gardens.
The eclectic and stylish homely design incorporates both traditional and modern touches. Dark colors, ornate plush armchairs and couches, ottomans, consoles, pillows, mesh curtains, and elaborate lamp shades draw a sharp contrast with the clean lines of the sparkling white backlit bookcase. The ensemble feels sophisticated without being stuffy, bold without being overbearing.
The Petra Lounge is exquisitely quiet most of the day. The club fills up around Emirates and Etihad departure times but remains a peaceful haven in contrast with the ever-busy Royal Jordanian Crown Lounge—so much that visitors often use the couches for some shut-eye on long layovers, for better or worse.
Private seating at the Petra Lounge – Amman (AMM)
The layout caters primarily to groups, with sofas and chairs around coffee tables. Solo travelers will find plenty of room to stretch out outside peak times, but may find that the club lacks privacy when the lounge fills up. When traveling solo or as a couple, head over to the hallway that links the main seating area with the dining area, for more private seating by the window.
Power and USB outlets can be found in the ground, though they’re not available at every seat.
When we visited we found the Petra Lounge to be a bit too warm compared to the rest of the terminal, and we noted that the staff lacked attention to detail when it came to vacuuming and cleaning. Hopefully our experience does not reflect the norm.

In the elegant dining room, guests can enjoy a variety western and oriental flavors 24 hours a day. The fare is simple, but fresh and tasty. The tables are set hotel-style, with placemats and white linen, in a welcome departure from the typical airport lounge experience.
In the main seating area is a delectable selection of sweets, along with fresh dates, hot tea, and espresso machines.
Bottled water, juices, soda, and beer are available in coolers throughout the lounge. Other alcoholic options are deceptively sparse: the selection is limited to a couple of wines, Sky Vodka, and Johnny Walker Black Label. Alcoholic beverages are not available during the month of Ramadan.
The Petra Lounge offers secure Wi-Fi, as well as three work cubicles. Other amenities include a prayer room, a selection of newspapers and magazines, and two separate smoking rooms with televisions.
In addition, guests can purchase access to the Transit Hotel facilities. Private rooms are available on an hourly basis or for overnight stays. Conference rooms and showers are also available—unfortunately, the showers are considered a hotel facility and come at an extra charge for patrons who are not guests of the hotel.

Located within Amman airport’s airside Transit Hotel, the Petra Lounge is a hidden gem away from the bustle of the terminal, and a superior alternative overall to the home carrier Royal Jordanian’s Crown Lounge.
The club sports a stylish residential décor, soothing views over the airport’s gardens, a posh dining room with white linen, an enjoyable hot buffet, and a wealth of essential amenities including a business center and Wi-Fi.
On the downside, showers aren’t complimentary, the liquor selection is minimalistic, and there are few solo seats so privacy may be limited at peak times. The Petra Lounge might not be flawless, but it’s the best spot at Queen Alia airport—and one of the few places where Priority Pass members enjoy the same facilities as Emirates First Class passengers.
Note: Alcoholic drinks are not available during the month of Ramadan. Showers are available at the Transit Hotel for a fee.

The Hotel of the Petra Transit Lounge is the most horrible place I have stayed in for a long time. Not only do they suck out your money. I paid US$150 for a five hour stay and was given a stinky, dirty small room. When I complained I was given another room. But also here the bed sheets had stains. The best thing is that after my energetic complaint the manager told me that I can stay as long as I need and relax before my flight leaves. Guess what happened in reality. I received a call after five hours to leave the room. I reminded him, what he had told me before.
These people don’t know anything about hospitality nor are they capable of offering a clean well kept room. What a shit hole, excuse my language, but I can’t find different words for such sleeziness.
Lounge itself is nice. The people inside are horrible.
A guy was washing his feet in the sink. Absolutely disgusting.
Staff didn’t seem to care which ruined it all a little bit.
Plenty of people talking on the phone and taking pictures and selfies which shouldn’t be happening in a lounge space.
Food was adequate but little choice (although salads were plentiful).
My go-to place in Queen Alia International Airport. I end up here over RJ’s Crown Lounge when I can; though RJ has the wider and larger property, this is the quiet one (whereas Crown Lounge all of the buzz of the airport mixes into the lounge) and with a nicer food selection. It can get a little crowded during the heavy evening schedules, but more often than not this is the real oasis of calm in Amman.
I was Charged with the access to this lounge by the staff without telling me, I came with my children and the staff said it’s ok to enter with them.
but found out after that the staff charged my Visa card, not only this i also discovered that after i arrived in Dubai by few days that they charged my card once again.
This is really stealing and fraud, what a shame.
If they are not accepting me with the children they should say so or clearly explain that there would be charges. But this way, not acceptable at all.
