The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Melbourne international airport is located in Terminal 2 on the basement level in an area dedicated to lounges, steps away from the Cathay Pacific Lounge and Air New Zealand Lounge.
First Class passengers benefit from a small dedicated area to the left of the reception desk.
Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge MEL design
Located underground—unlike newer lounges such as the Emirates Lounge—the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Melbourne international airport is a cavernous space without windows, views, or daylight. Given the constraints of the physical space, the airline designers have succeeded in creating a pleasant environment with a neutral color palette, soothing Earth tones, and recessed lighting. Light relaxing music plays in the background.
The lounge features the airline’s legacy design, which precedes the new décor recently introduced at major hubs such as London Heathrow and Hong Kong airports. Despite its age, the club has been meticulously maintained, and still looks pristine.
The layout is designed to maximize privacy: an island with a press selection, and a series of low partitions carve out multiple small seating areas, with a comfortable amount of space to walk around and stretch out. All seats come with a side table and power outlets. At the periphery of the lounge are larger, comfortable seats that swivel, and come with a personal console which works equally well to work or eat.
At the center of the club is a brightly lit large dining area flanked by a large buffet area, featuring Singapore Airlines’ typical attractive design with a gleaming white buffet and plates and utensils located on lower-level shelves.
The SilverKris Lounge is generously proportioned, and remains relatively quiet even at peak times.
Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge MEL amenities
The main draw of the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Melbourne airport is the food and drink selection, which, incidentally, is far superior to Cathay Pacific‘s offering next door. In the morning, patrons will find a full hot breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, cereal, yoghurt, pastries, and fruit, along with Nespresso coffee. Throughout the day, a selection of snacks and finger food is available, along with a couple of hot entrees.
The self-serve bar features a selection of wines, Champagne, as well as a variety of liquor and spirits including Grey Goose Vodka, Bacardi Rum, Grand Marnier, and Bailey’s. There is also a cooler with an assortment of soft drinks.
The SilverKris lounge features a single shower room which doubles as a unisex and accessible bathroom. The design is somewhat odd: look for the door in the seating area to the right of the buffet zone, then follow the instructions to open and then lock the door. There is no need to inquire with the reception desk ahead of time: if the room is available, then it’s yours to enjoy. Inside is a rain shower, a toilet, and a sink. Towels, bath products in wall-mounted dispensers, as well as other amenities such as a razor and toothbrush are provided. It would help if a stool or clothes hook was included.
Adjacent to the lobby, and shared with the First Class Lounge, is a small business center with a quiet and functional, albeit dark workspace, and a network printer. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also available throughout the lounge. Other amenities include a selection of newspapers and magazines.
Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge MEL bottom line
The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Melbourne international airport is a modest but well-appointed lounge with an enjoyable range of amenities. The club doesn’t have the cachet of the recently renovated locations, the underground location limits the appeal of the space, and the experience doesn’t reach. However, the décor is pleasant, the lounge has been meticulously maintained, and the lounge delivers on all the essentials including comfortable and private seating, and a generous selection of food and beverages.
- The comfortable and private seats.
- The food and beverage selection.
- The subterranean location and lack of views and daylight.
- The odd design of the shower room.

Overall ratings
A good lounge all around, with a hot buffet, comfortable seating, and a shower. Unfortunately, the space has no daylight whatsoever.
Lounge is small, and sometimes over crowded. Reasonable food selection for the size of lounge. Staff friendly and helpful.
Very poor service and food .
Not worth the effort or class cost
