United Club – Washington Dulles (IAD) by gate C17
Dulles airport is all about low expectations — the “temporary” concourses C and D that make up United’s hub facilities are 20 years old, and plans for a new terminal still haven’t materialized. The three United Clubs are all sub par. With this in mind, the United Club by gate C17 is probably above average when compared to the clubs by gates D8 and C7, and that doesn’t say much.
United Club IAD design
While the entrance of the club is located at the concourse level, the lounge itself is a located a level below, on the ground level. The cavernous space therefore suffers from a substantial lack of daylight: the only small window is located in – would you believe it – the TV room. Patrons who prefer daylight may wish to sit in the small seating area next to the reception desk upstairs, as long as they don’t mind the noise and traffic.
United Club – Washington Dulles (IAD) by gate C17
The strength of the United Club by gate C17 simply lies in its size — while it does get busy, it feels significantly more spacious and less crowded that the other two United Clubs.
The design is somewhere between sad and unremarkable: the club is still substantially the same as it used to be twenty years ago, though the carpet and furniture have been replaced, and power outlets and side tables are now available at every seat.

The food and beverage selection is in line with other United Clubs. Patrons will find a cold breakfast buffet in the morning, followed by an assortment of soups, salads, and snacks throughout the day. The selection is relatively varied and tasty, though it is no substitute for a meal. On the beverage front, soft drinks are complimentary and available from self-serve coolers, house wines and well drinks are free at the bar, while premium drinks come at a cost.
The club features over a dozen of individual work cubicles, which while sad looking, offer a comfortable degree of privacy and come with an individual lamp and power outlets.

The bathrooms are severely under dimensioned and look often pitiful.
Other amenities include a selection of newspapers and magazines.
United Club IAD bottom line
Overall, the United Club at Washington Dulles airport by gate C17 is a pretty sad lounge which you’d ideally avoid, though it delivers on the basics including power outlets, Wi-Fi, snacks, and complimentary drinks including self-serve soda. Despite its tired design, the United Club by gate C17 is more spacious and pleasant than the two other clubs by gates D8 and C7.

Overall ratings
Only half-crowded at 7:30 am on a weekday. Decent breakfast, with bacon and eggs. But otherwise a standard old-style United lounge. Better than the old C gates.
The worst lounge I have ever been in for food and drinks. By far. Otherwise comfortable
Visited early morning on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Not crowded at all – maybe only 20 people total, so there was ample seating. I had a whole section all to myself.
Check-In with the United One-Time pass was easy on my phone – also had to scan my United boarding pass. Just two taps on the smartphone reader then done. Friendly at the desk.
Lounge feels very spacious, with comfortable modern furniture. Can’t speak to any views of the tarmac since all the shades were closed and it was dark out. Ample outlet availability- at least one AC outlet plus 2 USB ports for each seat. (Bring those “USB Condoms” before charging anything on a public outlet though!)
Lovely fresh Illy coffee. Breakfast was minimal but tasty – yogurt, breads and pastries, fruits. Only hot option was toast. Can’t speak to the bar but will definitely be back – Dulles is a United hub and this is a perfectly comfortable and quiet lounge. Not a showstopper as lounges go, but a solid option that does the job well of offering a retreat from the noisy terminal!
Wonderful breakfast buffets with healthy options, illy espresso machines–power outlets everywhere, quiet books to read and work. So thankful to be able to stop here when I got stuck at Dulles!
Only front desk, some seating and a business center is located on the level that you enter – the main lounge is downstairs and offers plenty of seating and a nice, modern interior.
Modest selection of food. Beverages can be have at the bar, for alcoholic drinks you have to pay.
Free WIFI, newspapers and some magazines. Business centre.
